Back before the Rikti War I was an employee in Crey's R&D Department. We called the place Toyland back when I worked there. Anyway, I helped spearhead the development of the Crey CBX-9 Freeze Pistol. This was the ultimate in passive restraint. I made my career on that little gun. Then I found out what they were using it for. They were using it to capture superheroes during the Rikti Invasion so they could perform experiments on them. I tried to put a stop to them, but only wound up losing my job.

Before cleaning out my desk, though, I pilfered a few items. There was chaos during the invasion, so I was able to make off with a warehouse full of crap without anyone noticing. I put together my first suit with what I found. I combined the ice generating tech from the CBX-9 with some very high grade armor and started calling myself Manual Defrost. Well, I actually wanted to call myself Absolute Zero, but that was taken and Manual Defrost was all I could think of. That's life, though. Heh.
